Trip Report by BeachComber on 7/26/2007
My wife and I visited Paradise Beach on the Greek island of Mykonos in late June of 2007. Lying on the beach ended up being our main activity being that the temperate was up over 100F most of the time we were there. Paradise beach was not all I had hoped it would be. After earlier visits to places like Orient Beach on the island of Saint-Martin in the Caribbean and Mar Bella in Barcelona I had hopes for another good, mixed use beach. After a run down of the general layout for the beach I'll get into why I don't rank this among the best beaches I've been to.

The beach is several hundred yards long running in a natural bay on the southern side of Mykonos. The sand runs back 30 to 50 yards before hitting a solid wall of construction at the back of the beach. The facilities behind the beach include several bars, a self service restaurant, some covered seating areas, and a couple of shops. The sand is rather course and in the water the slope is gentle only reaching about six or seven feet deep before you reach a reef about 10 to 20 yards off shore. Be careful around the reef. It is covered in sea anemones which can give some skin irritation if they grab a hold of you.

About the last 50 yards on the west end of the beach is predominantly nude use. For 50 to 100 yards past the nude section you see predominately topless for the women. For the rest of the beach it is about as clothed as any American beach would be. You'll see a few topless women further down, but not like you would expect on most European beaches. Even the swimwear is very American with most of the men wearing baggy shorts swimming trunks and very few women wearing thong bikinis.

The crowd along most of the beach tends to be in the younger, 20ish bracket who come as groups of friends rather than couples or singles. Down on the nude side it tends to be older, as is often the case. Many of the 20-somethings move in large groups which can get rather annoying due to how loud they talk in groups. Speaking of loud, from about 3 PM on the music by the bars starts to get louder and louder. I never stayed beyond 5 PM, but I understand that the party goes on at the bars until the early morning.

I would not recommend this beach as a place for going to do nude sunbathing. A group of three early twenties American women tried to go without any swimwear down on the western end. While they were out on the reef, they were literally swarmed by men trying to hit on them. These guys were about as subtle as a chain saw. Another time, a group of Americans decided to setup right in the middle of the nude section and then one of them started complaining about all the people around with no swimsuits!

If you want a beach to party the night away, then Paradise Beach may be your thing. If you want a nice beach to layout without clothes, then I'd suggest looking for another venue.
