World Beach List

State or Provence of Hawaii

Hawaii, the 50th state, is the United States’ own island paradise. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, the island chain contains hundreds of islands but only seven have a permanent population. Of those seven, four – Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii (the Big Island) – are the main tourist destinations. Beaches are plentiful and accessible across the main islands. Some of the beaches are famous, like Waikiki, while others are unknown except to the locals.

The beaches in Hawaii have very different character based on their position on the islands and the time of year. The northern shores have huge surf in the winter due to storms in the northern Pacific. The southern shores are calm in the winter but can be a bit rough in the summer. One thing to be prepared for, due to the cold oceans currents passing the islands, the water can be rather cool year around. The climate may be tropic but the water may leave you thinking otherwise.
