I spent a Saturday afternoon on Barceloneta beach in June of 2006. This is one of the closest beaches to downtown Barcelona and lies just behind the Barceloneta neighborhood. To get to the beach from downtown (the Barceloneta Metro station) just walk south along Passeig de Joan de Borbo which is on the east side of the Barcelona harbor. Once your get down to the water you can either turn left for Barceloneta beach or right for Sant Sebastia beach.
On Saturday, which also turned out to be a public holiday, the beach was quite crowded. Still, there was plenty of places to lay out a towel and relax. There are a few vendors roaming the beach selling beer and soda. You'll also see a few women selling massage service on the beach. Fortunately, none are too aggressive.
For those who keep track of such things, topless sunbathing is very common across all of Barcelona's beaches. Easily 50% of the women chose to go without tops. With such a high percentage nobody notices one way o...
